Babcock is a leading supplier of plant hire services throughout southern Africa, specialising in mobile cranes, welding and mechanical construction plant. The company's custom developed information system is used to control the movement and invoicing of the more than 14 000 items.

Lifting and Hoisting Plant
Babcock has a comprehensive range of chain, lever and electric hoist equipment for a wide range of construction and lifting requirements. These include 2, 3 and 4.5t capacity pneumatic and 5, 10 and 20t capacity electric powered winches. Our inventory also includes a varied selection of chain blocks including 2 and 3t (both long and short) and 5 to 30t units.Other lifting equipment includes 3 to 49t snatch blocks, 3 to 6t lever blocks, 1.5 to 3t tirfors, 10 to 20t mechanical jacks, 25 to 400t hydraulic remote jacks and 20 to 100t bottle jacks.Inspections and load testing are carried out by our qualified Lifting Machine Entity (LMEs) and Lifting Machine Inspectors (LMIs). This, and all maintenance and repair work is completed in our comprehensively equipped workshop by experienced and qualified staff. 
 
Welding and Electrical Plant
Welding plant includes petrol powered welders, 600A squirt welders and DC 600 CO² welders c/w wire feeders. Our range also includes 220V, 300A, 400A and 600A inverters. Step-down transformers come in 40, 100 and 150kVA 525-380V.The various distribution boards in our range are 4-6 way, 8-12 way and 8-15 way 220V-380V, 15 way 220V and 8-12 way 380V-525V. 
 
Generators
Diesel powered generator sets ranging from 5 to 300kVA capacity. The 50 and 60kVA generators allow for the simultaneous addition of between 1 and 4 inverters as well as other electrical plant. 
 
Gear
Babcock has a complete range of gear for all your construction needs including hotbox elements, wire feeders, 12-38mm impact wrenches, drying and baking ovens, 220V extraction fans, hand remote controls including battery and 220V electric time clocks.A range of cutting and grinding equipment includes plasma, gamma and abrasive cutters plus 40-200mm pneumatic and electric grinders. Survey equipment includes theodolites and dumpy levels. 
 
All Terrain Cranes
Our fleet of all terrain cranes offer clients the versatility of conducting lifting jobs for both on- and off-road construction projects in the capacity range of 27,5 to 240t. These cranes can be transported to site on a company owned fleet of trucks. 
 
Rough Terrain Cranes
The rough terrain crane fleet comprises of 15 to 40t capacity units. As the name implies, they are capable of traversing very rough terrain to reach their working location on confined, unprepared or remote sites. These versatile units have a 'pick and carry' capability which makes on-site moving of material possible. 
 
Truck Mounted Cranes
Our truck mounted cranes are roadworthy and licensed and available from 20 to 60t lifting capacity. Various hydraulic fly jibs, winches and other attachments are available for hire with these units. 
 
Trucks and Lowbeds
Trucks and lowbeds are available to transport our major plant to site and are available for hire to our clients. Our fleet consists of 54 and 100t lowbeds, semi-trailer(s) and an 8t truck with high-up. 
 
Telehandlers and Forklifts
Babcock has a fleet of 3.5t telehandlers which are all available with fork, bucket, extension and man-cage attachments. Forklifts have 3 and 4t lift capacity. 
 
Tractors and Trailers
Two-wheel drive tractors and two- and four-wheel drive tractors fitted with hydraulic cranes are available. Optional site trailers of 8-10t, 15-20t and 25-30t capacity and both small and large diesel bowser trailers are also available for hire. 
 
Plant Operations and Workshops
Babcock values each opportunity to quote on tender or contractual work for both the small professional and large contractor. Our flexibility allows us to offer customers package deals for specific contracts such as shutdown or conventional individual and casual hire.Our competitive advantage stems from the transfer of significant experience and knowledge within the Babcock group in construction related industries in South Africa. This gives us unique insight of how to perform optimally in these markets.Our training and development programs ensure that our people develop and refine their skills and capabilities. Training forms a key element within Babcock and we are accredited to train our crane operators in codes 1, 2, 11 and 33 - 40.Our qualified LMEs and LMIs ensure that all our cranes and lifting equipment is regularly tested and legally compliant, thereby ensuring high safety standards.A fully equipped workshop facility with a compliment of qualified dedicated field service mechanics and technicians allows Babcock to maintain and service our plant and gear whilst being available to attend to on-site matters when they arise.
