Procurement

We work mainly with government departments or other regulated industries that often have budgetary as well as regulatory or political constraints that could significantly impact on our contracts. We have a duty to ensure that our customers' money is spent efficiently and contracts are managed effectively.

Our customers rely on us to manage a number of suppliers and sub-contractors on their behalf. We need to ensure that the supply chain for all our contracts adheres to our standards of ethical behaviour, environmental and other working policies.

We are working with the Government on their Sustainable Procurement initiative. As well as seeking to reduce CO² emissions part of the initiative is focused on broader sustainable procurement issues. As part of the MoD's performance review process in 2009 we were required to complete the Sustainable Procurement Flexible Framework.

We have appointed a Group Sustainable Procurement Manager to introduce benchmarks and measure performance on a number of KPIs related to this initiative as well as other supply chain issues. Throughout 2010 we introduced a range of processes and measures to ensure we met the Government's required standards, as well as those of our other customers, to put us in a good position from which to improve them.
