DISPIM® is a modular, mobile, re-configurable, neutron assay
system with the flexibility to assay the plutonium content of a
wide range of object sizes and shapes, determining both the mass
and distribution of the plutonium in an object.
DISPIM® consists of identical neutron counting modules, which
can be deployed in a variety of configurations.
The standard deployment is an assembly of four modules mounted
horizontally within a background shield that in turn attaches to a
mobile pump-truck. Each module can be easily extracted from the
assembly and either deployed in free space or placed in an
alternative deployment mechanism. Each module contains two He3
neutron detector tubes with a total of 24 twenty four modules used
in a full system deployment.
