Babcock has over 50 years' extensive experience in the design
and manufacture of equipment for nuclear markets worldwide. As the
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for many of our clients, we
have an unrivalled level of knowledge in this field.
We are immensely proud to have one of the UK's largest Nuclear
Design Houses with a strong team of professional engineers and
designers. This makes us uniquely placed to undertake complex
multi-disciplinary engineering projects from concept through to
fully-justified detailed design. Our first class design process,
which allows manufacture to be carried out directly from 3D models,
means you can expect a highly efficient and effective service from
the outset.
Details of our service are outlined below. If you require any
additional information, or wish to discuss your individual
requirements in more detail, please do not hesitate to get in
touch.
Core service features:
- Provision of 2D CAD concept to detailed design using
AutoCAD
- Provision of 3D CAD concept to detailed design using Autodesk
Inventor
- Working from an engineering layout or 3D model which has been
through design review, risk assessment and analysis substantiation
process, manufacturing drawings are produced; including general
arrangements, sub assemblies, parts lists, and detail drawings
- A 100% check is undertaken of all the design outputs by a team
of independent engineers to verify content, accuracy, and
quality
- A further substantiation process is undertaken by analysis and
the approving engineer following the checking process, and all
design outputs are signed, checked and approved prior to issue for
manufacture

Testimonial
"Congratulations to the whole team for successfully completing
the Scheme Design Review this week... The amount of effort that has
been put in to developing the design to the current level in such a
short space of time has been extraordinary... It was acknowledged
that the design of the EC&I systems is far superior to that
installed in 9 dock. It was further acknowledged that the Babcock
team has done a remarkable job in advancing the design to scheme
design level from the time it took over the design in October 2008.
The project team as a whole needs to be congratulated on what has
been achieved." Paul Heath, Package Manager, RAH Crane.
Case Study
Over 50 years experience
Our pedigree in the construction of the UK's earlier generations of
civil power and process plants positions us well to support the
current operators of the Magnox Advanced Gas Cooled and Pressurised
Water Reactor plants, as well as the commercial operating plant and
legacy facilities under the stewardship of the Nuclear
Decommissioning Authority.
Babcock specialises in systems for the dry storage of spent
nuclear fuels and 'exotic' waste materials, based on its patented
Modular Vault Dry Store concept. First used at Wylfa power station,
the concept has been progressively improved to address economic,
operational, design code and modern regulatory demands. Other
installations have been built in the USA and in Hungary.
