Career Development

A corner stone of the Babcock strategy is the training and development of people. We believe that the better we support, train and develop our people, the better they will be able to grow as individuals and ensure our success as a business.

All training and development will be tailored to the needs of an individual, however there are common themes to all our career development and training. Click on one of the headings below to find out more:

Support & Direction

The company puts great store on coaching and mentoring. Babcock trainees should expect to have a:

Buddy:
A person who has recently been through a similar training/induction programme and is best placed to ease the induction process.

Mentor:
A qualified professional in the given specialty who is responsible for managing an individual’s technical and personal development.

Programme Manager:
All training schemes have a programme manager who will ensure that each individual gets the right balance of experience (through placements) and training such that they meet the objectives of that training programme.

Appraisal:
Babcock personnel are appraised regularly to ensure a dialogue about an individual’s training and development needs.

Accreditation and Recognised Professional Qualifications

Babcock is committed to ensuring that all Apprentices, Graduates and other trainees work towards recognised professional qualifications such that we can demonstrate that our people all meet a specified industry standard of competence in a given field.

Structured Placements & Appointments

Most knowledge is imparted “On the Job”. Apprentices and Graduates will be placed around the business in a structured manner to ensure that they get the broadest insight into our business and their chosen specialisation.

After you have completed your training, your performance and development needs will continue to be assessed. You will continue to have the opportunity to move around the business as both our business and your development needs evolve.

Leadership & Management Training

Babcock manages an enormous asset portfolio and some very large, complex and strategically important projects for its customers. We need strong, effective and competent Leaders and Managers. To ensure that everyone is properly developed, Babcock has established the Babcock Academy. The Academy is a structured programme of Leadership and Management training delivered to all Managers as they progress through the Company.
