Archie Bethel OBE Chief Executive, Babcock Marine Archie joined Babcock in January 2004, having held a number of senior positions in both the private and public sectors, including chief operating officer at Motherwell Bridge Engineering Group and at Scottish Enterprise, where he was chief executive of SE Lanarkshire. A Chartered Mechanical Engineer, he graduated BSc and MBA from the University of Strathclyde and was awarded an OBE for services to enterprise in 1996. In 2003, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng). |

Iain Urquhart Corporate Services Director, Babcock Marine Iain’s involvement with Babcock started in 1989 when, as a newly qualified chartered accountant, he worked on the external audit of the then Facilities Management division of Babcock, which included the Rosyth Dockyard.
Following wide ranging post qualification experience in the profession, Iain joined Babcock in 1993 as Project Financial Controller. Since then he has held a number of positions including that of leading the cost reduction, performance improvement and re-structuring programme conducted at Rosyth in order to reposition the business in the competitive environment following the privatisation of the Rosyth Dockyard. Iain was appointed Finance Director of Babcock Engineering Services in 2002 and additionally assumed responsibility for oversight of the Alstec businesses following the acquisition of the Alstec Group in 2006.
Following the acquisition of the DML Group, Iain was appointed Corporate Services Director of Babcock Marine with responsibility for the provision of financial, commercial, IT and legal services across the business.

Roger Gillespie Deputy Managing Director/Managing Director - Supply Chain Services Roger was commissioned in the Royal Corps of Transport in 1976. He then worked in offshore construction before spending 20 years with Shell in a variety of procurement, logistics and management roles. Prior to joining Babcock at the end of 2002 Roger was a Senior Manager in Accenture working with a number of leading companies to transform their supply chains. |

David McGinley Business Development Director In 1971 David began his career in the Royal Navy; going on to serve in HM Ships Tiger, Abdiel, Middleton, Amazon and York, as well as periods of service in the Falkland Islands and the Gulf. David left the Royal Navy in 1995, having attained the rank of Warrant Officer. In June 1995 he joined Turner Diesel Ltd as the General Manager Power Stations Operations and Maintenance, developing power generation contracts in Columbia, Malaysia and Africa, as well as overseeing a new build 26 MW power plant in New Delhi. In 1999 he joined Semple Cochrane as Divisional Director Marine Services, which involved managing five-ship repair and dry-docking facilities, along with several other attached businesses; stretching from Penzance to Aberdeen. In 2003 David joined BNS at Faslane as Director – Strategic Development. He took up his current role as Business Development Director BES/BNS in October 2004. |

John Greig Company Secretary John read Modern Languages and Law at Oxford University before qualifying as a solicitor He practised corporate and commercial law as a partner in D J Freeman, London and subsequently Wiggin and Co, Cheltenham. From 1991 he held senior management positions with the Brent Walker Group and Gulf Oil. He joined Babcock in 1994 to advise on Railcare, a railway services joint venture, then becoming company solicitor for the Facilities Management Division in 1995. In addition to his other roles as company secretary, he acts as a trustee and secretary to the Rosyth Royal Dockyard pension scheme and secretary to the Babcock Naval Services pension scheme

Joe Reilly Managing Director - Marine Joe joined Babcock in 1984 from the Merchant Navy. He worked in the production area of Ships Division before joining the management team in 1988. He has worked in a variety of production management roles with his last functional role as that as Ship Manager Ark Royal before heading up the Production team. Joe took up his present role as Director - Marine in October 2002. |

Joe McShane Managing Director - Engineered Products A civil engineering graduate of Strathclyde University, Joe is also a Chartered Mechanical Engineer. Joe spent 27 years with Motherwell Bridge Group in a variety of roles, ranging from Site Construction Engineer to Senior Project Manager in West Africa, including responsibility for international business development, and a spell as Managing Director of a joint venture project with a large French plc. Joe returned to the UK and became Managing Director of Motherwell Bridge Engineering Services, a company with interests in heavy manufacturing, large storage tanks, gas holders, facilities repair and maintenace, refactory and plant hire. Joining Babcock in early 2004, Joe brings with him a wealth of commercial engineering experience. |

Mike Pettigrew Managing Director - Design & Technology A graduate of engineering, Mike spent his formative years with Rolls-Royce Industrial Power Group in various roles and locations. These included setting up and running a multimillion pound trading and support operation in South East Asia, proposing and carrying out preliminary due diligence on a JV partner in Brazil and various sales, commercial and general management roles.
More recently, Mike was the Commercial Director of Gardner Aerospace Ltd and spent a one year placement as Managing Director of a division of Novar Plc.
He joined Babcock Design and Technology Limited in July 2003.

Bill Williamson Managing Director - Port & Property Services Prior to Bill joining Babcock in 2002 with broad industry experience where he performed Procurement, Commercial and Finance Director roles in the Engineering, Manufacturing and Offshore industry sectors such as Financial & Commercial director with Torbrex Engineering and Finance & Procurement director with Viking Standby.
He was appointed Director, Facilities and Materials with special responsibility to lead business solutions and systems improvement projects. |

Sean Donaldson Project Director - CVF After serving a MoD apprenticeship, Sean occupied a number of roles which involved design and project managment of infrastructure projects including the RD102 submarine dock upgrade. During this time Sean graduated BSc/BEng (Hons) and qualified as a Chartered Electrical Engineer. He recently graduated MBA from the Open University. In 2001, Sean was appointed Facilities Director with Babcock Naval Services at HMNB Clyde responsibility for both site infrastructure and property maintenance including operation of key nuclear-related facilities such as the Faslance shiplift. Sean returned to Rosyth in January 2004 as Project Director CVF giving him responsibility for upgrading capability at Rosyth to match the CVF requirements and delivering a successful contract. |

Ken Munro Head of Human Resources Ken joined the Royal Navy as a mechanic at 17 and after 20 years' service left in 1993 as a qualified and experienced submarine charge engineer. He joined Babcock at this time and used this submarine experience and went on to hold the position of Nuclear Operations Safety Manager through the final years of submarine refitting. He became involved in site-wide activities as submarine work diminished and took a prominent role in change management early in 2000, and accepted the appointment as Head of Personnel in February 2001 Educated to post graduate level in Nuclear Engineering and to higher national level in Business Administration.

Bob Pirret General Manager BES Nuclear Bob served an engineering apprenticeship prior to university and worked with a number of companies prior to joining the civil service in 1976. Bob is both a chartered electrical engineer and nuclear engineer and has a MBA. Bob joined the Royal Dockyard in 1984 as a submarine Ship Controller and later in 1987 with Babcock holding the positions of Project Manager then Divisional Manager Submarine Projects. In this role Bob was responsible for both the commercial and project management of nuclear submarine refitting contracts. In 2001 Bob was involved in the negotiation of the Clyde Submarine Base Partnering agreement and more recently he has been involved in the business development in the civil nuclear field. He currently holds the post of General Manager BES Nuclear and is responsible for the management of the contracts that will lead to the full decommissioning of the nuclear licensed site at Rosyth. |

Andy Forbes Health, Safety & Environmental Manager Andy has been employed at Rosyth Dockyard since 1976 and has gained a wealth of experience since first moving into the Health and Safety Department in 1992.
His qualifications include an HNC in Mechanical Production Engineering, Diploma in Safety Management and an MSc in Waste with Environmental Management
Andy manages a multi-functional team which provides advice to the company on health, safety, fire, environment and security.

Nick Masson Quality Assurance Manager Nick joined Babcock in 1987 having worked for many years in the oil industry for Combustion Engineering. With an engineering background starting with research into fatigue failures into North Sea oil platforms Nick then progressed into non-destructive testing technologies before joining Weir Pumps International Operations Division which became his introduction into energy related markets. Current initiatives include developing an extensive business improvement network utilising Scottish Engineering,Scottish Enterprise and Quality Scotland business improvement platforms. |
