Babcock Design and Technology (BD&T)
Support Alliance
BD&T is one of five main contractors within the MoD's new design support alliance for surface ships and is lead provider of design support for the Royal Navy's aircraft carriers, Type 42 destroyers, mine counter measures and single role mine hunter vessels.
BD&T prepared the way when the distilling plant / evaporator and three auxiliary boilers on the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious had to be replaced with two reverse osmosis plants. This was a typical BD&T project involving the modelling of a virtual environment to test feasibility prior to the procurement and installation stages.
