  • Mike Turner

    Mike Turner CBE

    Non-Executive Chairman

    Mike Turner was appointed non-executive Chairman of Babcock International Group PLC on 1 November 2008 after retiring from his position as Chief Executive of BAE Systems. He is also Chairman of the Defence Industries Council (DIC), Joint Chairman of the National Defence Industries Council (NDIC) and is a member of the Government's Apprenticeship Ambassadors Network. He is a non-executive Director of Lazard Limited, Art Properties UK Limited and GKN PLC.

  • Peter Rogers

    Peter Rogers

    Chief Executive

    Peter Rogers joined the Group as Chief Operating Officer on 1 June 2002 and was appointed to the Board on 13 June 2002. On 1 August 2003 he became Group Chief Executive Officer. He is a former Director of Courtaulds PLC and Acordis BV. He is also a non-executive Director of Galliford Try PLC.

    Bill Tame joined the Board as Group Finance Director on 25 January 2002. He is a former Finance Director of Scapa Group PLC and is currently a non-executive Director of Carclo PLC.

  • Lord Alexander Hesketh

    The Rt. Hon. Lord Alexander Hesketh KBE

    Non-Executive Deputy Chairman

    Lord Hesketh joined the Board on 6 October 1993 becoming non-executive Deputy Chairman on 26 April 1996. He is a Director of a number of other private companies. He was Government Chief Whip in the House of Lords from 1991 to 1993 and, prior to that, was Industry Minister at the Department of Trade and Industry. He is a member of the Nominations Committee.

  • John Rennocks

    John Rennocks

    Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee & Senior Non-Executive Director

    Mr Rennocks joined the Board as a non-executive Director on 13 June 2002. He is a former Finance Director of Corus Group PLC and is Chairman of Diploma PLC, Nestor PLC, Intelligent Energy Holdings PLC and Composite Energy Limited. He is a non-executive director of Foreign & Colonial Investment Trust PLC, JPMorgan Overseas Investment Trust PLC and Inmarsat PLC. As well as being Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee, Mr Rennocks is a member of the company's Remuneration Committee and Nominations Committee.

  • Sir Nigel Essenhigh

    Sir Nigel Essenhigh GCB

    Non-Executive Director

    Sir Nigel Essenhigh joined the Board as a non-executive Director with effect from 4 March 2003 and is a member of the company's Audit and Risk, Remuneration and Nominations Committees. Until his retirement from the Royal Navy in late 2002 he was First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff. He is Chairman of NGC UK Limited, Northrop Grumman Corporation's UK holding company.

  • Justin Crookenden

    Justin Crookenden

    Chairman of the Remuneration Committee

    Justin Crookenden joined the Board as a non-executive Director with effect from 1 December 2005. As a qualified Chartered Accountant he spent 17 years in investment banking, initially with UBS, moving to Barclays de Zoete Wedd in 1990, which was acquired by Credit Suisse First Boston ('CSFB'). During his career he headed the teams responsible for International Equity Execution and UK M&A and his last role at CSFB was as Managing Director UK Investment Banking. He became Chairman of the company's Remuneration Committee on 1 April 2009 and is also a member of the Audit and Risk and Nominations Committees.

  • Sir David Omand

    Sir David Omand GCB

    Non-Executive Director

    Sir David joined the Board on 1 April 2009 and is a member of the company's Audit and Risk, Remuneration and Nominations Committees. He was the first UK Security and Intelligence Coordinator, responsible for the professional health of the intelligence community, national counter-terrorism strategy and ‘homeland security', and was the UK Government's chief crisis manager for civil contingencies. He served for seven years on the Joint Intelligence Committee. He was previously Permanent Secretary of the Home Office, Director of GCHQ (the UK Signals Intelligence and Information Assurance Agency) and Deputy Under Secretary of State for Policy in the Ministry of Defence. He was Principal Private Secretary to the Defence Secretary during the Falklands conflict, and was the UK Defence Counsellor in NATO Brussels for three years. He left Government service in 2005.

    Albert Dungate was appointed as Group Company Secretary and General Counsel on 1 February 2002. A solicitor, he was formerly General Counsel and Company Secretary of Arjo Wiggins Appleton PLC. He is Secretary to the company's Audit and Risk, Remuneration and Nominations Committees.

  • Kevin Thomas

    Kevin Thomas

    Group Business Development Director

    Kevin Thomas was appointed as Group Business Development Director in February 2006. Kevin was Managing Director of the Infrastructure business unit for the previous four years. Prior to joining Babcock he spent the previous 12 years in facilities management, including seven years with Serco Group PLC and fifteen years in local government with Merton, Surrey and Southwark Councils. Kevin was appointed non-executive Director of Apollo Group Holdings Limited in July 2008. In addition, Kevin is a past Chairman of the Business Services Association, a prominent support services trade association.

  • Roger Callaghan

    Roger O'Callaghan

    Chief Executive Officer, Africa (Financially reported as Engineering and Plant division)

    After completing articles as an accountant, Roger joined Electro-Nite eventually rising to the position of Managing Director. Following a period with the Chubb Group, he joined Invensys Corporation as Vice President Africa of the Compair division. In 1995 he was transferred to the United Kingdom as Managing Director of Compair Holman with the express task of restructuring the company to return it to a profit generating organisation. He joined Babcock in Africa in 2001 and is responsible for overseeing eight service lines and employing over 3000 people.

  • Martin Austick

    Martin Austick

    Chairman of BNS Nuclear Services and Managing Director of Airports (BNS Nuclear Services is financially reported as the Nuclear division and Airports is financially reported as part of the Defence division)

    Martin Austick started his career as a mechanical engineer working on the construction of Nuclear Power Stations. After various management roles in construction, manufacture and projects, Martin became UK Operations Director of Alstec in 2003 and subsequently Managing Director in 2006, following the acquisition of Alstec by Babcock. He was appointed MD of BNS Nuclear Services in 2007, responsible for the Civil Nuclear activity across the Group. In 2009 he was appointed Chairman of BNS Nuclear Services and Managing Director of Airports.

  • David Ruff

    David Ruff

    Managing Director, Defence (Financially reported as part of the Defence division)

    David Ruff was appointed Managing Director of Defence in January 2009 having run our defence consultancy, LSC Group, for a year. Prior to this, David worked as Business Development Director for Flagship Training Ltd. Previously, he was the Strategy & Business Development Director for VT Vehicle Solutions and a non-executive director of RAC Software Solutions Ltd. He originally came to the Ministry of Defence via the Rhodesian & British armies and also served with the Royal Marines. His last appointments in the MoD included Combat Support Vehicles IPT Leader, where he formed the (then) DLO Land's first through-life IPTs via a novel merger with DPA IPTs. He also worked with McKinsey & Co, leading the Land Implementation Team, transitioning the End-to-End Study to become the Defence Logistic Transformation Programme.

  • Mike Fellowes

    Mike Fellowes

    Mike Fellowes joined Babcock on 1 May 2006 from Balfour Beatty, where he was Managing Director of Haden Building Management for six years. Mike has spent 30 years in the services industry; his early career was with Grand Metropolitan and Quadrant progressing to Senior Executive Director roles within Pall Mall Services Group, Marriott and Sodexo. He is Chairman of Babcock joint venture companies Debut, Babcock DynCorp and MouchelBabcock education, and sits on the Public Service Management Working Group of the CBI.

  • Archie Bethel CBE

    Archie Bethel CBE

    Chief Executive, Marine

    Archie Bethel joined Babcock in January 2004 and was appointed Chief Executive of Marine on its formation in mid June 2007. Babcock is the country's leading Naval Warship and Submarine engineering business and employs over 8,000 people at locations around the UK including Devonport, Clyde (Faslane), Rosyth and Bristol. The company also provides engineering support services to the navies of Canada and Australia. Archie is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer and a graduate of the University of Strathclyde (BSc,MBA) and in 2003 was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering (FREng).

  • Bob Whiley

    Bob Whiley

    Managing Director, Networks

    Bob Whiley began his career with Seeboard and then moved into engineering and contract management with Dudley Bower & Company rising to Chief Executive of the Bower Group. He joined Babcock as MD of Networks in 1996. Under his direction the business unit has achieved year on year increases in revenue from £20m to £120m; achievable as a result of major contract wins, continuing growth through joint ventures, long term alliance partnering and sustained recruitment in specialist transmission design activities. Bob is a member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (MIOSH), a Fellow of the Institute of Directors (FIoD) and is also a Charted Director (CDir).

  • Tony Moore

    Tony Moore

    Managing Director, BNS Nuclear Services (Financially reported as the Nuclear division)

    Tony Moore is a Chartered Engineer with over 30 years experience working in engineering companies covering the power, automotive and nuclear industries. He has held a number of senior managerial posts in both private and publicly listed companies and was CEO of International Nuclear Solutions. During his time in the nuclear sector, he established a nuclear engineering business as a premier UK nuclear engineering supplier, trebling turnover over a three year period and establishing a new overseas nuclear business. He was involved with the de-merger of the company and its listing on the AIM stock market. The company was subsequently sold to Babcock International Group and Tony was appointed Operations Director of the newly formed nuclear group, BNS Nuclear Services. He was appointed as Managing Director of BNS Nuclear Services in April 2009.

  • John Howie

    John Howie

    Chief Executive, Rail

    John Howie was appointed Chief Executive of Rail in June 2009. He began his career in commercial and project roles in a regional aircraft business before moving into the naval design and shipbuilding sector. John joined Babcock in 2001 where he led the bids for the management services contract at HMNB Clyde and its subsequent extension. Following the creation of the Marine Division in 2007, he was appointed Managing Director - Warships, with responsibility for business integration, as well as for supporting the Royal Navy surface fleet and for our role in the future Aircraft Carrier project. In addition to his role at Babcock, John is a member of the Advisors Board for Strathclyde University Business School and a member of Scottish Engineering's Executive Committee.

    Andy Pearson

    Managing Director, Middle East

    Andy Pearson, Managing Director of Babcock’s Middle East office, is an engineer and MBA graduate with over 20 years experience in a range of operational, commercial and general management roles in multinational manufacturing and service organisations including Unilever, Courtaulds, BT and SCA Packaging. Andy has broad experience in operational management, business development and the implementation of major change and improvement programmes and is leading the growth of our Middle East business, headquartered in Abu Dhabi.
