Submarine Weapons Handling and Launch Systems (WHLS)

Our systems are found on UK, US, Canadian and Australian Platforms – with current projects under way for the Spanish and South Korean submarine platforms.
Babcock is the Delegated Design Authority for all UK submarines Weapon Handling and Launch Systems and has provided modern ATP based systems on the UK’s new Astute Submarine and the Spanish S-80.
Submarine life rafts
Babcock has designed and developed a submarine Life Raft System deployable to the Submarines maximum diving depth with capacity for up to 60 personnel per unit (and multiple units per submarine). The system can be customised for retrofit into existing submarine platforms or incorporated into new build programmes.
Submarine Countermeasure Launch System
Babcock has over 35 years of experience providing high-integrity submarine launch Systems and our new innovative, Countermeasure Launch System is fully scalable and covert. It utilises a non-pyrotechnic prime mover, is lightweight and its modular design enables rapid platform integration. Current customers for this and other countermeasure systems/equipment include defence agencies/companies in the UK, Spain and Israel.
