Warships

Babcock currently carries out approximately three-quarters of the annual maintenance and refit load required to support the Royal Navy’s surface ships and it has approximately 1,000 of its own personnel associated directly with throughput across all of its sites.

Warship docking and refit periods for all classes of vessels have been carried out across Babcock's three sites and Babcock will continue to be the main maritime support provider to Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) into the future. Babcock are active participants in the Surface Ship Support (SSS) Project, which will see an alliance between MoD, Babcock and BVT Surface Fleet Ltd delivering through life support to virtually all Royal Navy warships.

Once formed, the alliance will see personnel from MoD and industry working collaboratively to reduce the cost of support and stabilise or improve availability. At Devonport and Faslane a number of Royal Navy staff are already managed by Babcock Marine and are deployed in support of waterfront engineering work and other activities so as to optimise the delivery of value for money across the support operations.
