Babcock’s architectural service is provided from within a multi-disciplinary consultancy (Structural Engineering, Quantity Surveyor Environmental Engineering, and Construction Design Management Compliance Surveyor), creating a single point of contact with one team.

Our Architects and Technicians consistently draw upon their breadth of expertise to ensure the reality of each design. With an extensive client list, we have experience of working on almost every building typology and can arrive at an understanding of our clients needs quickly and successfully. We consistently strive to maximise each development in terms of spatial and volumetric qualities before plans are moved onto the planning and construction phases.

Core Service Features
Architectural Services

• This is provided via a structured framework of work stages defined by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), ranging from stage A (appraisal) to L (completion on site and after practical completion).
• We can operate as the Lead Designer working under the Project Manager, or act as Project Manager and Lead Designer all in one role.
• This can commence from an already developed project brief or we can help formulate the brief with the client's assistance, leading onto the feasibility/design stages which may (project depending) lead to the submission of the planning application. Post planning we can provide full working drawings, through tender and onto the construction stage.

Design Skills

• Maximise the spatial and volumetric qualities of proposed new buildings, the site and external spaces.
• Re-organise/extend and enhance the lifespan of existing building stock.
• Maximise and enhance building and land values.
• Enhances and add to the local environment.

Sustainability

• Minimise the wastage of materials and future energy consumption of the building.
• Use the right material (locally sourced where possible) in the correct location.
• Where possible our building designs are proposed to exceed statutory regulations in terms of energy performance and can have a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Management (BREEAM) rating applied.

Building Regulations

• Our in house Compliance Surveyor will be an active member of the design team, whose early advice regarding Building Regulations is vital. We can liaise/submit and obtain approval for Building Regulations either via the Building Regulation Consultant or the Local Authority Inspector.

Planning

• We have the skills and abilities to submit comprehensive applications, including the drafting of design and access statements which are now required by all Local Authorities
• We can advise on planning matters and liaise with the officers in order to achieve the best outcome
• Our service also includes dealing with the discharge of planning conditions and the submission of pre-planning applications
